Another Fashion Blog… With a Twist!

I have considered blogging about my second life for a while. Its a fun place for me to be, and I have made some amazing friends, run into real friends and not known it and reaffirmed real world friendships, and had adventures from being the Queen for a day on through swashbuckling sword play. I can build a house without having to hire a construction company, have virtual pets, and even get married if I want to. My pixelated self can even wear ridiculous shoes and my feet never hurt. It is freeing.

What made me give in to the idea of blogging about fashion  in second life is my realization that it is not easy to learn to put together outfits for some, a skill I take for granted. If your avatar is not the standard human it can be a lot harder. The twist in this blog? Its a fashion blog for furries and non furries alike. I have no idea how valuable my tips will be to you, that is up to the general individual but in learning in the last five years to make my avatar meet my own standards, I have learned to make a shape, build, modify and other wise edit the items provided to me, gifted, or bought through the hard work of running a store while my First Life takes up far more time than I want it to.

I noticed that in order to wear the clothing I want, I had to modify the body I was assigned by the builder of my fur. I began this with my very first avatar, and have never stopped.  I refuse to believe that, outside of pants, there are limitations on what a fur or a human can wear. In the Pre-Mesh days of second life, this was easier to deal with, as the unique body shapes mattered less. In the post mesh world however, the finer details on hair, jewelry and other elements makes it worth it to learn how to fit the mesh to me.  I do not like the general fur aesthetic assigned to furs in second life, but this blog is not about changing that. It is about letting new furs, old furs wanting to learn new tricks and even human avs learn from my terrible fashion mistakes so that they can find their own style. Style after all, is not about fitting in to a cookie cutter style but is about making a statement about who you are in the choice of textures, colors and feeling good. If you like what you are wearing, then wear it.

On to the photos! I am starting small. My humanoid avatar and my cats are going to wear the same dress, so you can see how similar yet how different this can look. Feel free to click on the images or head to Flickr for larger shots and a bit of visual variety in their composition.

Before I finish this first post I want to thank Venzi for inspiring me, via learning from and with me to do this as well as Nath Pevensey for putting up with my crankiness, late night whine sessions about broken computers and his photo tutorial which reminded me that photography first or second life is not so far apart.

Future Posts will focus on the differences between Paws and Slink Mesh Hands and Feet, as well as the customization of both. Not all attachments are created equal and we will see how both ways are good, bad, and funny.

Stay Fashionable!
